ASA Purpose
Arlington Soccer Association’s purpose is to promote soccer by developing players, promoting fun and team spirit, and teaching good sportsmanship to all players, coaches, parents, and spectators. ASA offers a soccer program for recreational players; age 3 through age 19, who live within the boundaries of the Arlington Independent School District. This includes recreational leagues, coaching courses for coaches, game fields, referees and league administration. Games are mostly on Saturdays and Sundays and all our recreational teams are coached by volunteer parent coaches. This program is intended to be a fun and enjoyable experience for all players. All recreational players are expected to play at least 50% of each game. Developmentally modified rules are used for Under 5 through Under 10 players to help teach them skills in a manner consistent with the child’s emotional, physical, and mental development.
ASA Recreational leagues are first and foremost a place where children can learn the game of soccer while having fun. They can be used as a stepping stone to higher levels of soccer or can continue to be great exercise and fun for your children. Parents are encouraged to get involved as coaches, managers, and team parents in order to learn the game and spend quality time with their children.
U5/U6 Mini League
Play games divided into 10 minute quarters using a 4v4 playing format with no goal keeper using a size 3 ball.
U7/U8 Minor League
Play games divided into 11 minute quarters using a 5v5 format that includes a goal keeper using a size 3 ball.
U9/U10 Junior League
Play games divided into 12 minute quarters. At U9 and U10 the playing format is expanded to 8v8 using a size 4 ball. At the end of the Fall season, the top U10 team from the girls division and boys division of the Junior League are invited to participate in the Tournament of Champions sponsored by NTSSA.
U11-U19 Arlington Soccer Unlimited
ASU offers recreational league play for boys and girls in the Under 11 through Under 19 age groups. These teams compete in the standard 11v11 format. The home games are played at Harold Patterson Sports Complex. U11/U12 teams play 30 minute halves using a size 4 ball, U13/U14 teams play 35 minute halves using a size 5 ball, U15/U16 teams play 40 minutes halves, and U17/U18 teams play 45 minute halves. Teams outside of the ASA boundaries are invited to play in this league; therefore, some teams may travel to cities such as Mansfield, Crowley, Red Oak, or Weatherford when they are the visiting team. At the end of the Fall season, the top team in the U12, U14, U16, and U19 age groups are invited to participate in the Tournament of Champions.
